Centinel Spine receives FDA clearance of spine device: 5 highlights

West Chester, Pa.-based Centinel Spine received FDA clearance for its ALTOS device.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. The ALTOS is the first FDA-cleared posterior cervical thoracic stabilization system, intended for lateral masses of the cervical spine or the pedicles of the cervical-thoracic spine.

 

2. The ALTOS system provides threaded and smooth shank polyaxial screws with 80 degree flexibility for insertion.

 

3. The system includes laminar hooks, connectors as well as straight and curved rods.

 

4. Gery Hsu, MD, of CRMC Medical Associates in Coffeyville, Kan., implanted the first ALTOS system in a patient on Jan. 4.

 

5. "Centinel Spine is dedicated to developing products that address surgical needs, anatomical challenges and surgeon requirements," said John J. Viscogliosi, chairman and CEO, Centinel Spine.
