There has been an upsurge in global demand for orthopedic biomaterials, according to a new report by Research and Markets.

Here are five trends:

1. The uptick in the demand is driven by increasing hip and knee replacement surgeries and the rising aging population.

2. Additionally, rising awareness regarding orthopedic disorders and its treatment has also propelled the demand of orthopedic biomaterials.

3. However, rising failure of joint implants and high cost of production of biomaterials are some factors which can hinder the growth of the market.

4. Metals are the most widely used orthopedic biomaterial.

5. But the ceramics, polymers and orthobiologics segments are poised to witness high growth in the next five years.
