FDA clears two vertebral balloon systems for Becton, Dickinson — 5 things to know

Becton, Dickinson has been cleared by the FDA on two Vertebral Balloon Systems.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The products were developed by CareFusion, a global medical technology corporation serving the healthcare industry, which was taken over by BD in March 2015.

 

2. The products are 13-gauge AVAmax VBS and 11-gauge AVAflex VBS.

 

3. The spine augmentation devices are designed to reduce and stabilize spinal fractures and consequently offer instant and extended respite from pain.

 

4. The balloon of the new 13-gauge AVAmax VBS will be the smallest straight-line vertebral balloon, available in lengths of 10mm, 15mm and 20mm, while the 11-gauge AVAflex VBS will be the smallest curved balloon in the market with the advantage of a smaller access point.

 

5. According to a research report by MarketsandMarkets, the global spinal implants and spinal devices market is projected to a reach a valuation of nearly $15.73 billion by 2020.
