Spinal Tech

Indiana University Health Arnett in Lafayette is performing anterior hip replacements to allow patients to recover more quickly, according to wlfi.com.

Here are five quick facts:

1. The procedure allows for enhanced mobility for patients.

2. Surgeons are using the same implants as the standard hip replacement.

3. Rather than performing the surgery from the back of the posterior hip replacement, surgeons are performing the anterior hip replacement.

4. Surgeons do not need to cut or detach muscles or tissues, therefore preventing the hip from being dislocated later.

5. Patients can get back to their normal lifestyles within two weeks to four weeks after surgery. The procedure itself takes only 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
