Materialise, Arcam partner for implant technology: 5 key notes

Spinal Tech

Materialise partnered with Arcam to integrate the software and metal three-dimensional printer.

Here are five key notes:

1. The two companies partnered to create the Arcam Build Processor and plan to launch the technology for purchase within the next few weeks.

2. The partnership combines Arcam's Electron Beam Melting machines with Materialise's three-matic software to create implants.

3. The Build Processor is designed to replace the large STL data stage with a compact file format and slice-based options.

4. Streamics facilitates the two-way communication between the printer and software so the Build Processor gives directions to the printer and picks up feedback from the printer to trace and store data on specific jobs.

5. The technology allows for a more controlled three-dimensional printing to comply with manufacturing requirements in the medical and aerospace projects going forward.
