Zimmer loses $9.2M in Durom Cup decision — 6 facts

Zimmer lost $9.2 million after a Los Angeles jury ruled in favor of a man who claimed the Durom Cup caused him permanent injuries, according to drugwatch.

Here are six facts:

 

1. Gary Kline filed the lawsuit against Zimmer after he received the implant and suffered complications.

 

2. Mr. Kline underwent two revision surgeries to correct the problems.

 

3. The jury reached their verdict after only a few hours after the three week trial.

 

4. Zimmer was found to not adequately warn of the dangers associated with the Durom Cup. The design was also ruled faulty.

 

5. Mr. Kline was not able to file for punitive damages, but was awarded $153,000 in medical costs, $6.4 million in future noneconomic damages and $2.6 million for past noneconomic damage.

 

6. Zimmer was ruled 100 percent liable for the damages.
