Catholic health organization purchases spine surgery robotic guidance system: 5 things to know

A Catholic health organizations purchased Mazor's Renaissance system for robotic guidance during spine surgery.

Here are five things to know about the agreement:

 

1. In addition to selling one system, Mazor signed an agreement to provide a platform to sell additional systems and the portfolio of disposable products throughout the Catholic healthcare organization's hospital network.

 

2. The Catholic healthcare organization has some experience with the robotic system; one of its hospitals purchased a Renaissance system in the second quarter of 2013.

 

3. This is Mazor's fourth national account, which serves to strengthen system awareness in the United States.

 

4. Last month at the North American Spine Society annual meeting, clinical data was presented showing robotic systems can improve accuracy in minimally invasive, percutaneous and complex revision spine surgeries when compared with the freehand technique.

5. During the third quarter of 2013, Mazor Robotics sold five systems, with revenue reaching $6.1 million. Operating loss was $3.5 million and net loss was $3.9 million.
