Centinel Spine releases next generation anterior lumbar spine device — 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

Centinel Spine released the MIDLINE II, its next generation STALIF Family Lumbar Integrated Interbody fusion device.

"The enhanced screw angulation on the MIDLINE II device addresses the challenges in placing the lateral screws," said Michael Duffy, MD, a spine surgeon at Texas Back Institute in Plano.

Here are five things to know about MIDLINE II:

1. The device is used to restore sagittal balance and lordosis to simplify anterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery and maximize opportunities for lumbar fusion.

2. The device is the only standalone, no-profile, lumbar integrated interbody fusion device with compressive fixation that is proven biomechanically equivalent to a 360 degrees fusion.

3. One key change in the MIDLINE II design is the medical screw-hole configuration, which allows surgeons to place the lateral screws more easily and facilitate overall fixation through the reduction in the surgical envelope.

4. MIDLINE II's shape and size offerings are updated for implantation ease to better suit the varying patient population.

5. Centinel Spine intends to launch MIDLINE II in early 2015 with extensive surgeon training.

"The addition of MIDLINE II to our product portfolio is another step towards fulfilling Centinel Spine's corporate mission of becoming the leader in anterior column support," said John J. Viscogliosi, CEO and President of Centinel Spine.
