Cytori Therapeutics received a United States patent for the Celution System for treating musculoskeletal disorders including spine disc disease, according to a company news release.
The patent covers the therapeutic use of adipose-derived stem and regeneration cells for repair and regeneration of the spinal disc as well as formation of bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle, tendon and ligaments. The patent includes several elements, such as 61 dependent claims covering the site of cell delivery, additives to the system's output, surgical implants, scaffolds and spinal fusion devices for use with the system's output.
This is the tenth U.S. patent issued to Cytori Therapeutics, which has more than 100 patent applications pending worldwide.
