Companies Challenging Medtronic for Vertebral Compression Fracture Market Control

Spinal Tech

Medtronic Spinal and Biologics has dominated the United States vertebral compression fracture market for the past ten years, however a Millennium Research Group survey shows new companies such as Orthovita and Cook Medical have been gaining popularity among practitioners, according to a Millennium Research Group news release.

MRG surveys 200 U.S. orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, interventional neuroradiologists, pain management specialists and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists twice a year on customer satisfaction, brand advocacy, repurchase intention and perceived value.

Kevin Flewwelling, MRG orthopedic division manager, suggested the research indicates that Orthovita's revenues should increase over the next few years, as the company scored the closest to industry leader Medtronic. He also mentioned that since the market has expanded to include products such as Stryker Interventional Spine's iVAS Inflatable Vertebral Augmentation System and CareFusion's AVAmax vertebral balloon at competitive prices, physicians have more product choice.
