Richmond, Va.-based Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital became one of four hospitals in the U.S. to install Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS, according to the Henrico Citizen.

1. Jed Vanichkachorn, MD, performed the first minimally invasive spine surgery using the navigation system. St. Mary's is training additional surgeons to use the system.

3. Globus Medical's robotic system provides better patient anatomy visualization throughout the procedure. Surgeons note the systems' most significant advantage is the placement of instruments and implants through a rigid robotic arm.
4. The system also provides continuous feedback and real-time visualization of instruments and implant positions.
5. St. Mary's Hospital CEO Francine Barr told Henrico Citizen, "We are excited that St. Mary's is the first hospital to introduce this new technology to our spine surgery program and to our community."
