Essentia Health to use Stryker's MAKO robotic arm in surgeries: 3 details

Duluth, Minn.-based St. Mary's Medical Center, part of Duluth-based Essentia Healthcare, will begin using Stryker's MAKO robotic-arm assisted surgery system, according to Fox KQDS.

Here are three things to know:

1. MAKO is also designed to aid surgeons in performing hip and knee replacements.

2. Essentia orthopedic surgeon Brad Edgerton, MD, said the assistance from technology such as MAKO can benefit patients years after surgery.

3. St. Mary's plans to implement the surgical device as early as September 2018.
