1st Orange County hospital performs total knee replacement with Mako System: 4 things to know

Imaging

Fountain Valley, Calif.-based MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center is the first Orange County hospital to perform a robotic-arm-assisted total knee replacement with Stryker's Mako System.

Here are four things to know.

1. The Mako Total Knee application is intended to relieve pain due to joint degeneration caused by osteoarthritis. Surgeons can use the Mako System to create a personalized plan of action by using the system's CT-based 3D modeling of bone anatomy.

2. It also enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan intraoperatively and assists them in executing bone resections.

3. The Mako Partial Knee application only targets the part of the knee damaged by osteoarthritis.

4. Stryker also developed the Mako Total Hip application, which is designed for adults with degenerative hip joint disease.
