Imaging

The patient safety organization Surgical Review Corp. recognized Mount Kisco, N.Y.-based Northern Westchester Hospital as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

Here are four things to know.

1. NWH purchased its first da Vinci Surgical System, the S model, in 2007. Since then, surgeons have performed more than 4,000 robot-assisted surgeries at NWH, which currently has two Xi Surgical Robots.

2. Surgical Review Corp. also recognized five NWH robotic surgery team members as Surgeon of Excellences in Robotic Surgery, including:

• Warren Bromberg, MD, chief of urology and co-director of the Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery at NWH.

• Elisa Burns, MD, gynecologic surgeon and director of quality and outcomes for the Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery.

• Darren Rohan, MD, Westchester regional director of the thoracic surgery program.

• Iris Wertheim, MD, gynecologic oncology surgeon, co-director of the Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery at NWH.

• Jerald Wishner, MD, co-director of the Institute for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery, medical director of the colorectal surgery program at NWH, and one 10 people designated a Master Surgeon in robotic surgery in the world.

3. By becoming accredited, NWH's Center of Excellence for Robotic Surgery becomes part of SRC's international database and will collect and share data with SRC in order to benchmark outcomes and costs with other Centers of Excellence.

4. NWH's Institute for Robotics includes surgeons specializing in urology, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, single-incision gynecologic procedures, colorectal, thoracic and general surgery.
