Jeffrey Peterson joined Imaging3's board of directors, effective March 22.

Here are five things to know.

1. Mr. Peterson previously served as chairman of Pressure BioSciences, a company focused on using extreme pressure technologies for control over biomolecular interactions, analytical sample preparation, and nano-emulsion preparations.

2. He is the co-founder and CEO of Target Discovery, a personalized medicine diagnostics company focused on proteomic and isomorphic biomarkers.

3. Mr. Peterson is also the chairman and CEO of Veritomyx, a Target Discovery subsidiary offering cloud computing SaaS solutions for advanced signal processing in mass spectrometry.

4. Imaging3 developed the patented Dominion SmartScan, which produces 3-D X ray images in real time. It is designed to expose patients to significantly less radiation than CT scans, and the company intends for it be used in settings where scanning is limited due to radiation exposure concerns.

5. Imaging3 plans to submit an FDA 510(k) in 2018 to gain marketing authorization for initial applications of the SmartScan technology.
