Regentis Biomaterials is targeting an estimated $3 billion U.S. cartilage repair market with GelrinC, an investigational hydrogel-based implant designed to regenerate damaged knee cartilage through a single-step procedure.
GelrinC is designed as an off-the-shelf cartilage repair platform that can be integrated into existing surgical workflows without cell harvesting, laboratory expansion, patient-specific manufacturing or a second surgery. The procedure is designed to take about 10 minutes, according to a July 27 news release shared with Becker’s.
The company said the market opportunity is supported by approximately 470,000 knee cartilage repair procedures performed annually in the U.S. Clinical data generated to date have shown durable improvements in pain and function, along with evidence of high-quality cartilage repair tissue.
