NC Biomatrix BV is producing a biomaterial that will assist the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration in a minimally invasive way, reports Innovation Origins.
1. The biomaterial is a cell-driven matrix gel that can be injected into the spinal disc and repair disc volume and height, which would ease pain in patients suffering from degenerative disc disease.
2. It will also offer a scaffold for autologous cellular regeneration of the disc core.
3. The biomaterial contains swelling properties which allow it to soak up fluid and expand, rejuvenating the pressure inside the disc to achieve the same height pre-degeneration.
