UCLA Health to spend $145M on sports medicine center, ASC

News & Analysis

Los Angeles-based UCLA Health has purchased a life sciences property for $55 million and plans to spend at least $90 million more on renovations to develop it into UCLA Health's Sports Medicine Institute, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported Nov. 18.

The 170,000-square foot space was leased by Germany-based technology company Siemens until October. According to the report, UCLA plans to spend about $90 million on renovations to the building that transform the space into a sports medicine institute that could include an ASC, sterile processing, a medical clinic, advanced imaging, a clinical laboratory and a specialty pharmacy.

The purchase comes about UCLA's acquisition of the 260-bed West Hills (Calif.) Hospital and Medical Center from HCA Healthcare in March, which has since been renamed UCLA West Valley Medical Center.
