Dr. Dean Chou to lead NewYork-Presbyterian's spine division

Dean Chou, MD, was named chief of the spine division at NewYork-Presbyterian's neurosurgery department.

Dr. Chou will lead the neurological spine program at New York City-based Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, according to a Nov. 3 news release. He was also named professor and vice chair of neurosurgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

In his new role, he will enhance the Och spine program and work on clinical spine reserach. He will work alongside Lawrence Lenke, MD, co-director of Och Spine.

"Dr. Chou’s deep understanding of everything from minimally invasive scoliosis surgery to spinal tumors will help elevate the Och Spine program as it continues to grow throughout the New York region," Roger Härtl, MD, co-director of Och Spine, said in the release. "He will bring exceptional care to our patients, and we are excited to be working together as we continue to transform the way spine care is delivered."

Dr. Chou has expertise in coliosis, spinal deformity, spinal tumors and degenerative conditions of the spine. He wrote more than 300 peer-reviewed publications.
