Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. John Kirkpatrick of Shands Hospital

John Kirkpatrick, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. He is also a professor and chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Jacksonville College of Medicine.

Dr. John Kirkpatrick of Shands Hospital in JacksonvilleHe treats arthritis, deformity, joint replacement, trauma, fractures and radiculopathy. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a past recipient of the Cervical Spine Research Society’s Resident Paper Award for his research and a leadership fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

He received his medical degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he also completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Dr. Kirkpatrick is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Florida Medical Association, Florida Orthopaedic Society, American Orthopaedic Association, North American Spine Society and more.
