Douglas Johnson, MD, performed the procedure using implant instruments for the BRYAN Cervical Disc, which was approved by the FDA on Sept. 13. The device allows implant surgery to be performed as an alternative to spinal fusion.

The cervical disc procedure offers patients significant advantages to spinal fusion, including shorter recovery time and no immobilization. Most patients can return to a normal lifestyle within a few weeks.
