Study Examines Low Back Pain’s Association With Back Pain Beliefs

A new study published in Physical Therapy shows negative back pain beliefs associated with disability in adults with low back pain, according to a Physical Therapy Products report.

Researchers examined 1,126 people at age 17 who provided information about low back pain, low back pain impact and back pain beliefs. The researchers found:

•    Back pain beliefs were more positive among people with low back pain
•    People with low back pain activity modification had more positive back pain beliefs than others with low back pain
•    Female respondents had more positive back pain beliefs than male respondents
•    Lower body mass, high family income and positive primary care beliefs were also associated with more positive back pain beliefs
