Dr. Baumgarten is the medical director for St. Francis Outpatient Orthopedics and a network physician for St. Francis Sports Medicine. He has also served as the team physician for several local high schools and universities.
Dr. Baumgarten completed his medical degree from the University of Louisville (Ky.) School of Medicine. The completed an orthopedic surgery internship and residency at Greenville Hospital System. He then completed two sports medicine fellowships, one at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and a second at the American Sports Institute in Birmingham, Ala.
He’s a member of many professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and South Carolina Medical Association.
Dr. Baumgarten thinks a trend of industry collaboration will continue to grow and impact orthopedics. “With orthopedic surgeons and hospitals collaborating further, it will be interesting to watch the private industry response continue to evolve. Consolidation and further changes to the traditional ‘distributor’ model are almost certain,” he says.
