Dr. Robert McWhirter Honored With Community Award

Robert McWhirter, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Avera in Mitchell, S.D., has been honored with the Community Service Award from the South Dakota State Medical Association, according to a Mitchell Republic report.

The award is given each year to a physician who has demonstrated outstanding work in community affairs. Dr. McWhirter has dedicated much of his time as a team physician for local sports teams and donated money to local athletics facilities.

Dr. McWhirter earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Massachusetts’ affiliated hospitals in Worcester.
