Dr. Vishal Sarwahi to Present on Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery

Vishal Sarwahi, MD, of Montefiore Medical Center, will be presenting on minimally invasive scoliosis surgery at the annual Scoliosis Research Society Meeting in Chicago on Sept. 6.

Dr. Sarwahi is the chief of scoliosis surgery in the department of orthopedic surgery at Montefiore. He is among only a handful of surgeons nationally who performs the minimally invasive technique. He’s been performing the surgery at Montefiore for four years.

Dr. Sarwahi published the first professional journal article on this technique in the August 2011 issue of Scoliosis. He has performed the procedure 12 times to date.

He will be presenting as part of the educational program to medical professionals at the Scoliosis Research Society.

He is fellowship-trained in pediatric orthopedics and spine surgery. Dr. Sarwahi was the Edwin Warner Ryerson Fellow in Pediatric Orthopaedics at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern Memorial University in Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in spine deformity at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Cornell University in New York.
