Toradol is a nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration and legal for use by professional football players. However, new research suggests long term use could lead to kidney failure, liver damage and gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, according to the report.
The drug also inhibits platelet function, which means athletes who experience traumatic injury while using Toradol are at increased risk for additional injury. New recommendations from the NFL Physicians Society Task Force warn against its use.
