Orthopedic surgeon George Paletta, MD, has called for 72-hour post-op stays at his offices for up to seven people each week. Dr. Paletta, a team physician for the St. Louis Cardinals, plans to expand his practice into two buildings in Chesterfield.

BJC HealthCare’s policy analysis director spoke out against Dr. Paletta’s request, saying the surgeon should be licensed as a hospital to be able to accommodate three-day stays.

A second vote on the measure is set for Aug. 20.
