The center includes a therapy center for rehabilitation and patient rooms that are nearly twice as big as the original rooms.

The center marks the end of the first phase of the health system’s Orthopedic Center for Excellence remodeling project, which is expected to cost $10 million. The new center of excellence will allow the hospital to accommodate an additional 600 patients a year, according to the report. Last year, St. Vincent performed 856 joint replacements.

The next phase is upgrading the Orthopedic Center, which will include renovating 28 orthopedic rooms. St. Vincent expects to open the facility in 2013.
