Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Melvin Hayashi Dies

Melvin Hayashi, MD, an orthopedic and sports medicine physicians, has passed away from complications stemming from esophageal cancer, according to a Ventura County Star report.

Dr. Hayashi operated a private practice in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with his partners from 1973 to 2010. In addition to his clinical practice, he served as a team physician for local colleges and high schools. Dr. Hayashi also served as a team physician for the US soccer and water polo teams in the U.S. Olympics in 1984 and 1988. He also played a role in the establishment of Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital.
