West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health has opened a new orthopedic suite at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway (N.J.), the system announced Nov. 5.

Three orthopedic surgeons from RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group staff the suite. The practice expands access to orthopedic care for patients in Rahway and surrounding Union County communities.

Todd Alter, MD, specializes in hand, wrist and shoulder conditions. Melissa Soderquist, MD, focuses on orthopedic trauma and joint replacement. Richard Marchese, MD, specializes in adult reconstruction, including knee and hip replacement.

The suite offers outpatient appointments, surgical procedures, inpatient services and follow-up rehabilitation in one location inside the hospital. Patients also gain access to musculoskeletal services across the RWJBarnabas Health system.

“In Rahway, these orthopedic specialists will make it easier for patients to receive coordinated care close to home,” Michael Prilutsky, executive vice president of RWJBarnabas Health and president and CEO of RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, said.

Frank Liporace, MD, senior vice president of the musculoskeletal service line for RWJBarnabas Health’s northern regions, said the combined expertise in upper extremity care, trauma and joint replacement gives patients comprehensive treatment options.

Eric Kleinert, MSN, RN, chief administrative officer of the Rahway hospital, said the three surgeons’ prior experience and dedication to patients in the community will build on the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence.

The system operates 14 hospitals, employs more than 45,000 workers and cares for more than 5 million people annually.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
