Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours has acquired Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, a Suffolk, Va.-based orthopedic practice founded in 1984.
The acquisition took effect Nov. 1. The practice, known locally as SMOC, operates three locations serving patients in Suffolk, Chesapeake and surrounding Hampton Roads communities. All three will be rebranded as Bon Secours Orthopedics and will work alongside the system’s existing orthopedic providers, according to a Nov. 2 news release.
SMOC offers sports medicine, spine care, joint replacement and pain management, including robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery. Bon Secours offered positions to SMOC’s care providers and other employees. Current patients can keep their providers.
Pat Davis-Hagens, market president of Bon Secours Hampton Roads, said combining the two organizations can create “a more connected and seamless patient experience throughout Hampton Roads.”
Bryan Fox, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon with SMOC, said the deal lets the practice build on its clinical foundation while giving patients access to a broader network of services, advanced technology and coordinated care.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
