Steam venting from a sterilizer relief valve prompted a Rocky Hill (Conn.) Fire Department response to a possible structure fire at Orthopedic Associates, on the night of Oct. 5.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:25 p.m, according to an Oct. Facebook post by the fire department. When they arrived, several employees told them they had seen smoke in one of the building’s lab areas.
Crews secured a water supply before going into the building to investigate. Inside, they found a sterilizer releasing steam through a relief valve.
Firefighters left the building and handed it over to a maintenance representative to deal with the equipment.
No workers or firefighters were injured, according to the fire department. Crews cleared the scene by 10:05 p.m., 40 minutes after the call.
