Tampa, Fla.-based Joseph Spine Institute launched a Regenerative Therapy Center offering autologous adipose-derived cell therapies and platelet-rich plasma for spine and musculoskeletal care.
The practice said the center will combine regenerative therapies with spine diagnosis, interventional pain management, sports medicine and minimally invasive spine surgery, according to a Sept. 3 news release.
The center uses adipose-derived cells obtained from a patient’s own body and offers platelet-rich plasma prepared from a patient’s blood. The therapies may be considered for patients after a comprehensive medical evaluation.
The practice acknowledged the regulatory limitations surrounding the treatments. The FDA states that adipose-derived regenerative products are subject to federal regulatory requirements and have not been approved to treat orthopedic conditions.
Samuel Joseph Jr., MD, founder of Joseph Spine Institute, said regenerative treatment is not appropriate for every patient or diagnosis and that patients undergo an evaluation before treatment options are discussed, according to the release.
