Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati retained The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery.
The certification acknowledges healthcare organizations that meet standards for spine surgery care and is offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Good Samaritan Hospital’s spine surgery program was developed through a collaboration with Cincinnati-based Mayfield Brain & Spine, whose neurosurgeons partnered with hospital leadership on clinical standards and outcomes reporting, according to a July 31 news release from Cincinnati-based TriHealth, which operates the hospital.
To earn the certification, organizations must implement evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, participate in the American Spine Registry and report performance measures including surgical site infection rates, new neurological deficits, unplanned return visits to the operating room and patient-reported outcomes.
