The Huntington, W.Va.-based Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine dedicated the Bill and Lois Dolin Distinguished Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery during a July 22 ceremony. It is the first endowed chair in the school’s history.
The $1 million endowment, the second-largest gift in the school’s history, was established by longtime supporters Bill and Lois Dolin to provide permanent support for resident education and faculty development, according to a July 23 news release.
Ali Oliashirazi, MD, will serve as the inaugural chair. He founded Marshall Orthopaedics in 2001 and later helped establish the school’s orthopedic surgery residency program.
The endowed chair will strengthen resources for orthopedic education, faculty development and patient care while supporting the department’s long-term growth.
