Gabriele Jasper, MD, founder of the Jasper Spine Institute in Brick Township, N.J., died in a plane crash July 13 in upstate New York. He was 70, according to a July 15 Jersey Shore Online report.
Dr. Jasper was piloting a 1976 Piper Aerostar that crashed shortly after taking off from Adirondack Regional Airport in Saranac Lake, N.Y. His daughter and his granddaughter also died in the crash.
Dr. Jasper founded the Jasper Spine Institute in 2002 and specialized in minimally invasive endoscopic spine procedures for spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. He also trained surgeons worldwide in endoscopic spine surgery.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
