Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center has become the first hospital in Illinois to install the Medtronic Stealth AXiS surgical system, an AI-powered navigation platform for brain and spine surgery.

The technology combines AI-assisted surgical planning, real-time navigation and robotic-assisted capabilities to help neurosurgeons perform complex procedures with greater precision. The platform is designed to support minimally invasive surgery and improve accuracy throughout procedures, according to a July 13 system news release.

The hospital is among the first in the U.S. to deploy the system. The technology will be used for complex brain and spine procedures.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
