Kenneth Chakour, MD, of Geneva, Ill.-based Fox Valley Orthopedics became the first surgeon in the world to perform a total hip replacement at an ASC using the latest generation of Velys hip navigation technology, according to a June 29 news release shared with Becker’s.

Dr. Chakour performed the procedure using the upgraded computer-assisted navigation system, which provides surgeons with real-time imaging and measurements to guide implant positioning during hip replacement surgery.

The latest generation of Velys hip navigation is designed to help surgeons tailor procedures to a patient’s anatomy and improve implant alignment while allowing surgeons to maintain full control throughout the operation.

The practice adopted the technology as part of its efforts to expand access to advanced orthopedic procedures in the outpatient setting, according to the release.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
