Orthopedic devicemaker Enovis has released the DonJoy Spinamic Hybrid Scoliosis Brace, a new treatment option for adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis.
The brace combines rigid corrective elements with a flexible mesh vest, aiming to provide spinal curve correction while improving comfort and wearability compared with traditional rigid braces. Published clinical evidence supports the device’s effectiveness in preventing curve progression in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, according to a June 8 news release.
The brace is available in 10 sizes and is designed to allow fitting, imaging and adjustments during a single patient visit. The device uses an adjustable three-point pressure system and customizable pressure plates to accommodate different curve patterns.
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis affects an estimated 0.5% to 5% of adolescents worldwide. While rigid bracing remains the standard nonsurgical treatment for preventing curve progression during growth, patient compliance can be limited by discomfort and lifestyle restrictions, according to the release.
The brace is now available in the U.S., and Enovis is pursuing regulatory clearance in additional markets.
