Fremont, Calif.-based Washington Health has performed 1,000 robotic-assisted knee replacements using the Tmini miniature robotic system from Think Surgical and Zimmer Biomet’s Persona personalized knee system.
The procedures were performed by Alexander Sah, MD, medical co-director of the Institute for Joint Restoration & Research and medical director of the Outpatient Arthroplasty Program at Washington Outpatient Surgery Center in Fremont. Dr. Sah was selected in 2024 by Think Surgical and Zimmer Biomet to perform the procedure, according to an April 21 news release.
The robotic platform uses CT imaging and intraoperative measurements to support implant sizing, alignment and soft-tissue balancing during knee replacement surgery. The technology aims to create a more personalized surgical approach for patients.
Washington Health’s Institute for Joint Restoration & Research also serves as a training center for the Think Surgical platform, providing instruction for surgeons from around the world. The health system performs more procedures using the platform than any other site globally, according to the release.
