Hospital settings offered the highest annual mean pay for orthopedic surgeons, excluding pediatrics, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The agency’s newest data is as of May 2025. Here are the annual mean wages for orthopedic surgeons.

Note: Exact data was not available for outpatient care centers. The wage is equal to or greater than $115.00 per hour or $239,200 per year.

General medicine and surgical hospitals: $442,340

Offices of physicians: $365,750

Specialty hospitals: $285,430

Colleges, universities and professional schools: $248,090
