Craig Della Valle, MD, is the Aaron G. Rosenberg Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and chief of the section of adult reconstruction at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Della Valle focuses his clinical practice on primary and revision total joint arthroplasty and has performed more than 13,000 hip and knee replacements over the course of his career. He is also a prolific researcher, with more than 300 peer-reviewed publications spanning unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, primary and revision total knee and hip arthroplasty, and hip resurfacing.

He is a member of The Hip Society, The Knee Society and The International Hip Society. He previously served as president of both the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and is currently in the presidential line of The Knee Society.

Dr. Della Valle earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania and trained as a resident at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City, where he dedicated a full year to clinical and basic science research in adult reconstructive surgery. He went on to complete his adult reconstruction fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and Winfield, Ill.-based Central DuPage Hospital.

He has emerged as a prominent voice on the shift of complex joint procedures into ASCs following the Medicare payment rule that took effect in January 2026 and broadened the list of ASC-eligible procedures.

“These were the last procedures we were not able to do at an ambulatory surgery center,” Dr. Della Valle told Becker’s. “If you had asked most people, myself included, five years ago, seven years ago, certainly 10 years ago, it would have been almost laughable.”

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
