Joseph Cox, MD, of Bienville Orthopedic Specialists in Gautier, Miss., performed the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s first endoscopic spine surgery, according to a LinkedIn post.
Dr. Cox performed a medial branch transection and used Arthrex’s endoscopic spine system, the April 30 post said.
“Endoscopic spine surgery is the next evolution in modern spine care,” Dr. Cox said in the post. “This technique is referred to as ‘ultra minimally invasive.’ The incision for this technique is typically less than 1cm, but through this small portal, we can remove herniated discs, take care of painful joints, or shave down bone spurs in a way that was not possible in the past. My goal with this ultra minimally invasive technique is to preserve as much normal anatomy as possible while providing pain relief, improved quality of life and return to desired activities quickly.”
At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
