Adam Bruggeman, MD, is a spine surgeon at Texas Spine Care in San Antonio.
Dr. Bruggeman specializes in spine surgery and completed his fellowship at South Texas Spinal Clinic. He trained in orthopedic surgery at the Gainesville-based University of Florida, where he served as part of a team providing musculoskeletal and spine care for University of Florida athletes.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he graduated first in his class and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Earlier in his career, Dr. Bruggeman earned a master’s degree in hospital administration from Trinity University in San Antonio and completed an administrative internship at Methodist Healthcare.
He has held national leadership roles, including serving as a resident representative for the Association of American Medical Colleges and on the academic leadership committee for the American Orthopaedic Association, where he is also a member of its Emerging Leaders program.
Drawing on his clinical and operational experience, Dr. Bruggeman said consolidation among independent ASCs is likely to continue as financial pressures mount.
“An increasingly consolidated payer market is forcing independent facilities to consolidate themselves in order to keep up,” he told Becker’s. “Until insurance companies create financial stability through fair and sustainable payments to independent physicians and independent facilities, I anticipate consolidation will continue.”
