Frank M. Phillips is a nationally recognized pioneer in minimally invasive spine surgery and serves as Section Head of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Director of the Division of Spine Surgery, and the Ronald DeWald Endowed Professor of Spinal Deformities at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He was among the first surgeons in Chicago to perform minimally invasive spinal procedures in the 1990s and has since pioneered numerous techniques now widely adopted across the field. He holds more than 20 patents, has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and 50 book chapters, and has directed spine education courses worldwide. A graduate of the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Chicago and spine fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland under Henry Bohlman. Dr. Phillips was the first surgeon in the world to perform augmented reality-guided minimally invasive spine surgery and is the founder and past president of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. He has been named one of the top 28 spine surgeons in the country by his peers.
