Kenneth Donohue, MD, performed the first shoulder replacement of its kind on the East Coast.
The stemless, rotator cuff-intact anatomic total shoulder replacement minimizes trauma to the bone and rotator cuff, and may help restore function more quickly, according to a March 23 news release from the Yale School of Medicine.
The implant preserves patients’ natural bone and is designed to avoid detaching tendons from the rotator cuff.
Dr. Donohue performed the procedure at Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital, where he serves as chief of shoulder reconstruction. He is also an associate professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine.
