During his career, Dr. Ploska has served as a PGA Tour Physician and orthopedic surgeon for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and American LeMans Race Series. During his time as a surgeon for American LeMans Race athletes, Dr. Ploska had to rely on the driver’s history and physical examination when injuries occurred during the race instead of an MRI to decide whether there was an issue with returning to the track.
“We have to be able to quickly determine whether they are able to return to the track during a race,” said Dr. Ploska in a Resurgens Orthopaedics news release. “We don’t have an MRI on the track; we can’t say, ‘have an MRI and come back tomorrow.’ We have to make a split second decision about their injuries.”
He has treated drivers with neck and spine sprains and strains. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Ploska is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Atlanta Orthopaedic Society and American Medical Association.
Dr. Ploska earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his residency at the University of Virginia Hospitals in Charlottesville.
