Orthopedic hospital expansion breaks ground

Hammes broke ground on an expansion at Specialists Hospital Shreveport (La.), a physician-owned surgical hospital focused on spine and orthopedics, according to a March 19 news release.

The project will expand on surgical capabilities, sterile processing and central sterile services capacity.

Hammes acquired the surgical 65,000-square-foot hospital in 2023. At the time, Specialists Hospital Shreveport performed an average 6,100 surgeries annually but had limited space for sterile processing.

The expansion includes a 7,100-square-foot podium addition and a 1,000-square-foot renovation to support sterile processing, a loading dock and materials management area, along with two new operating rooms.

“This expansion project highlights the strength and breadth of the Hammes platform—bringing together our clinical, operational and real estate development expertise to quickly and efficiently evaluate the hospital’s needs and deliver a thoughtfully designed solution,” Steve Buckeridge, Hammes partners senior vice president. “By integrating these capabilities, we were able to collaborate closely with Specialists Hospital Shreveport to design a space that supports current workflows while positioning the hospital for future growth and continued delivery of advanced spine and orthopedic care.”

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
