Lakewood, Wash.-based St. Clare Hospital, part of Seattle-based Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is the first hospital in Washington, Oregon and Montana to offer robotic-assisted total shoulder replacement surgery.
The inaugural procedure was performed by orthopedic surgeon Jacob Gorbaty, MD. The robotic system minimizes the margin of error from 10 degrees to about half a degree compared to manual techniques or static guides, according to a Feb. 26 news release from Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.
Robotic-assisted total shoulder replacement joins St. Clare Hospital’s portfolio of robotic total knee and hip procedures. The minimally invasive approach may improve outcomes and recovery times for patients with advanced shoulder joint damage, the release said.
