Meet the AAOS’s 2026 leadership team

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons named its top leadership for 2026, according to March 4 announcements.

Wilford Gibson, MD is president. He has more than a decade of leadership experience within the AAOS including serving as chair of the board of councilors and the advocacy council. Dr. Wilson also served on the political action committee and was honored as the 2022 AAOS Congressional Ambassador of the Year.

Michael Parks, MD, is first vice president. He has decades of clinical experience, leadership and advocacy. With the AAOS he has served in roles including treasurer, chair of the AAOS Resolutions and Finance Committees and Board of Directors member-at-large. He earned the AAOS Diversity Award in 2019 and the Achievement Award in 2012.

Elizabeth Matzkin, MD, is second vice president. She is beginning a four-year volunteer leadership term and is slated to be the AAOS’ second woman president in 2028. She has served on the AAOS’ Board of Directors as a member-at-large and was the inaugural chair of the Membership Council. Dr. Matzkin also was a a member of the Bylaws Committee and the Communications Cabinet and helped develop the AAOS Leadership Institute.
